研究紹介
Russo-Japanese relations: History and memory
I study the history of russo-japanese relations, especially – naval cooperation in the beginning of 20th century. This is the part of my interest in relations between western countries and Japan. I am interested not only in the past, but also in how the memory of the past is maintained. How does the difference between what happened and how people remember the past arise? When I examine a historical source, I am mindful that history and memory are two completely different terms. Memory is not the event itself, but what is later communicated. Often in my work I encounter spontaneously formed stereotypes, and even more often – consciously constructed narratives. In my work, I try to show the facts and phenomena that have been forgotten – intentionally or unintentionally.
