Social networks and the rights to movement: Disaster and land-linked pastoralists in Mongolia
Byambabaatar Ichinkhorloo (PhD) is an associate professor of socio-cultural anthropology and director of the Centre for Development Studies at the National University of Mongolia. Since the 1990s, he has studied how Mongolia, particularly urban residents and livestock herders, has navigated post-socialism, with many international participants, and has examined development policy and socio-cultural issues. He has conducted longitudinal ethnographic research among herders in eastern, western, and southern Mongolia, examining the nomadic way of life, local cooperation, and power networks. His current research interests focus on social transformation, sustainable development, mining, and nomadic cultures and civilisation. His research examines how communities navigate social transformation, energy transition, and infrastructure development amid shifting political and ecological conditions. Through education and policy-oriented collaboration, he is working to link academic research with sustainable development practice, fostering understanding among public and private institutions, local communities, and international organisations
