研究紹介

The Conflict in Ukraine and the Formation of the “post-February Arctic”: an analysis of social, political and international changes.

The research is to study the real scale and real changes in Arctic politics caused by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, February 2022. Russia’s Special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine has taken competition in the Arctic region to a new level. This project introduces into scientific circulation the concept of the “post-February Arctic” in order to serve to better understand the dramatic changes in the relations of the Far North, which occurred as a result of the beginning of the phase of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict after February 24, 2022. The key question of this study can be formulated as follows: is it true that the Ukrainian events are changing the Arctic and the international order in the region so much that we can talk about the emergence of a “post-February Arctic”? If so, what processes and what concepts can describe these dynamics? I emphasize the unpredictable and even shocking nature of the processes in the modern Arctic, generated by the unexpected start of the Russian Especial Military Operation in Ukraine. A glimpse of the real changes taking place in the Arctic, with all their complexity and uncertainty, can be gained by examining a set of seven notable consequences or impacts since the beginning of the Russian-Ukrainian military conflict. With respect of a research theme “The Russian-Ukrainian War and the Arctic Indigenous” it concerns how political divisions amongst the Arctic states, dramatically exacerbated by the war in the Ukraine, are reflected to the International Indigenous Organizations and Indigenous tribes? Regarding Russian domestic polar level: the view of there are any voices of dissent among Indigenous peoples with this war?
